Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense (Boswellia carterii) has been sought out for millennia going back to the time of Jesus Christ and the story of the 3 wise men bringing gold, frankincense and myrrh to the new king. In Ayurvedic medicine it is commonly referred to as "dhoop," and has been used for its antiseptic properties for centuries to treat arthritis, to heal wounds, for tooth decay, strengthening the female hormone system and for purifying the air. Recently there have been several studies that have shown that frankincense has reduced the growth of cancerous tumors so much research is continuing on this subject.
The essential oil of frankincense is produced by steam distillation of the tree resin. The oil's chemical components are 75% monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, monoterpenoles, sesquiterpenols and ketones. It has a good balsamic sweet fragrance, while the Indian frankincense oil has a very fresh smell.
